Slow Down Around schools

This morning 8 students, 5 police and two travelwise community workers went out on Frielanders road to remind our community that they need to slow down when they pass our school.

With a heavy fog this morning we were not able to use the police speed guns, but the police were able to use their car radars to record the speeds of cars coming towards our crossings.

We had a simple message for parents who were going slow around our school a clever designed postcard and a travelwise pen

For parents who were going to fast our message was simple- Please slow down so we can keep our kids safe!
The speed limit is 50 km, so stay under the limit!

Thanks for having a positive attitude and keeping the speed down. Only two cars received a ticket this morning (Going 62kms!!!) Everyone else was so friendly and open to our students talking to them about their safety message!

You can see the thick fog we had to deal with this morning, surprisingly people were still speeding!

Mikaere is sitting in the back sit (Nice and warm) recording the speeds of all the cars going past.

Our friendly police were also out giving warnings to cars to have lights on during the fog.

After the police approached the car and asked if it was okay, the students approached them with their messages, either a thumbs up for good driving, or a thumbs down for going to fast.

Poster Competition Details

This week we are having a poster competition with some great prizes up for grabs:
1 lunch box, 1 drink bottle, Some Chocolate, pencil, key ring, slap bands- First prize for Juniors, Middles and Senior School, plus the best posters will get sent away to be printed into a real poster and displayed.
Lots of small prizes for people who give it ago!

Messages you could use are:
Slow down Save lives!
Use the crossing
Don't park on yellow lines!

1 entry per student allowed
All entries to Room 17 By Friday 12th May
Must have a road safety message and lots of color!
Size A4-A3 accepted no smaller or bigger.

Slow down around school Campaign

We are back into another full on term!

And we want to remind all road users in our community to

SLOW DOWN AROUND SCHOOLS....

The travelwise leaders and team were out extra early this week holding up their signs to remind all drivers to slow down around our school!

We want to make sure all our tamariki get to school safely and appreciate the overwhelming support we received from the public.

We recorded all the responses from people who went past and waved, nodded, tooted, and smiled at us as we stood in the freezing cold on Tuesday and Wednesday this week holding our signs.

On Tuesday we had a total of 84 people respond to our signs, and on Wednesday we had 133 people.

We had members of the community come and congratulate the kids on there awesome message and had people calling into the school to say well done for being out there and reminding the public.
